On October 13, 2018, the Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima of the Heralds of the Gospel in Nova Friburgo, Brazil, was blessed and its altar dedicated by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Edney Gouvêa Mattoso, Diocesan Bishop of Nova Friburgo.
The ceremony was concelebrated by a large number of priests of the Clerical Society of Apostolic Life of Virgo Flos Carmeli and Diocesan Clergy, and was attended by various civil and military authorities.
ith the impossibility of being physically present at the ceremony, Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, father and founder of the Heralds of the Gospel, sent a message to be read at the end of the celebration. Here are his words:
“Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers: all good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights”(James 1:17). With these words, St. James sets forth in his epistle a supernatural principle that illustrates, guides and brings joy to those who today have come to the solemn dedication ceremony of yet another church of the Heralds of the Gospel, this time in the city of Nova Friburgo.
Contemplating this building, erected for worship according to the style of the charism of the Heralds, points to a reality that deserves to be considered by our grateful hearts: the amount of grace that has been poured over this place beginning with the laying of the foundation stone until today, in order that this work could be concluded.
If everyone’s eyes were able to see the heavenly assistance that has accompanied each step of this enterprise, they would surely see how much the Angels acted with unflagging perseverance, guiding the design of the plans, inspiring the design of the architectural forms, the choice of colors and the execution of all the stages of development. But above all, the Angels ignited the desire in souls to overcome all difficulties to bring to fruition this true standard of Mary’s victory planted in the Friburguese mountains. Today we are undoubtedly standing before a “good gift”, a “perfect gift” that has come to us from the “Father of all lights” through the most magnificent ray of all his brilliance: the most pure Heart of Mary, glorified here under the invocation of Our Lady of Fatima!
It is my desire that this temple be a refuge of prayer, of conversion and of reparation. May the fervent prayers of my sons and daughters here before the Blessed Sacrament open Heaven for a flood of divine favours such as has never been known before in the history of the Heralds of the Gospel since they began their activities in Nova Friburgo. May an intense life of grace, emanating from this church, attract many souls to a change of life, conforming them in every way to the Law of God. And finally, may the abandonment to which the Virgin of Fatima has so often been relegated by men, receive exemplary reparation through the love, sacrifice and glory that She will be given here.
With the impossibility of being physically present on this occasion, I assure you of my spiritual closeness and union with the designs of Providence for this new house of God and gate of Heaven, where I place my paternal gaze and leave my blessing forever.
In Iesu et Maria,
Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, EP
